Welcome to Young Risers Pre-school

Our Location

The pre-school is based in an annexe in the infant department of Istead Rise Primary School.  It has it's own dedicated facilities including outside play area but also benefits from use of the school infant hall and school grounds/playground. Access to the pre-school is via a gate to the outside play area, which is locked once each session has started until collection time.

Our Staff

All our staff at Young Risers are early years qualified and DBS checked and have many years experience in early years unless they are students training with us, from local colleges in Kent. Young Risers prides itself in ensuring high standards of care and education are adhered to; staff training is a vital part of our ethos. All staff regularly update their professional development via short courses and update their existing knowledge such as first aid, child protection and other related early years topics.

Ratios

We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

With this in mind we work within the statutory framework of the ratio of 1:4 for our 2 year olds and 1:8 for our 3 - 5 year olds. You will find that more often than not, we have more staff than is required.

Our Ofsted inspection said:

Our Ofsted inspection in June 2019 said:

'Staff build on children's individual interests and abilities to provide a wide range of purposeful resources and activities. They enable the children to make choices, follow their own interests and make good progress from their individual starting points'.

'Staff and children develop close bonds and secure attachments. Children show they are emotionally secure as they become active learners and have confidence to explore'.

'Staff use information from assessments of children's progress to plan opportunities for them to develop their skills. They promote their communication skills well. For example, staff follow the children's lead and interests during conversations. They model language effectively and extend children's vocabulary as they play. Staff promote children's prewriting skills and creativity well'.

'Children are confident learners and concentrate for increasing periods of time at their chosen activities. They develop good mathematical and literacy skills ready for their move on to school'.
